Wayne Harmon Obituary, Death, Funeral And Visitation

Wayne Harmon Obituary, Death –At AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center on Friday, July 7, 2023, Jersey City, New Jersey native Wayne Edward Harmon Sr., who had spent his whole life in the city, passed away. Geraldine Delores Staples and Fred Harmon welcomed their son Wayne into the world on April 1st, 1952 in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Wayne was a qualified electrical contractor who worked in a variety of positions, including but not limited to supervising electricians and serving as a foreman for a wide variety of businesses located all around the state of New Jersey. At the infant age of seven, Wayne learned the electrical trade from his father, Fred Harmon, whom he credits with both his knowledge and his love for the field. Due to the intensity with which he approached his work, he was able to teach his son, Wayne Harmon Jr., the craft.

Fred Harmon was one of five African American men who were successful in passing the New Jersey State License Electrician Exam. Harmon was one of those five. In addition to his many other accomplishments, Wayne was the founder of Harmon Bros. Electric, where he was the Chief Executive Officer until 1985. In addition, Wayne was responsible for the development of a number of sites along Martin Luther King Drive in Jersey City, in addition to other projects located around the state.

In addition to being actively involved in his local community, Wayne served on a number of other boards and agencies across the state of New Jersey. Cooking was one of Wayne’s favorite ways to spend time with his loved ones and entertain guests. Some of his signature dishes included pancakes, beef sausage and bacon, spaghetti, life-size hamburgers, and his iconic tuna fish.

In addition to being a fan of music in general and the Motown legends in particular, Wayne enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, going on long drives, and starting his day off by sitting in the park, drinking coffee and reading the newspaper. The casino was Wayne’s favorite place. He was an expert builder who had a passion for lighting and ceiling fans, as well as open floor plans.

His wife Beverly Garrett-Harmon, his children Tamika Harmon, Wayne Harmon Jr., and Darrell Matthews, his daughter-in-laws Alison Harmon and Kimberly Matthews, and his grandchildren Kiya Jefferson, Anisa Harmon, Aaron Harmon, Teasha Matthews, and Orlando Matthews are among those who will miss him after his passing. Brother Michael K. Harmon from Jersey City, New Jersey, and sister Denise E. Stallings from Lochearn, Maryland. In addition, Wayne leaves behind a large number of sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as a large number of nieces and nephews.

His mother Geraldine Delores Maxwell, his stepfather Benjamin Maxwell, his brother Douglas Harmon, and his sister Marilyn O. Harmon all passed away before Wayne. Wayne was named after his father, Fred Harmon, and his mother, Geraldine Delores Maxwell.
