Michael Lewis Obituary, Death – On August 2nd, Michael B. Lewis died away peacefully in the comfort of his own home. He had lived in Barnesville, Georgia, for a good portion of his 50 years and had reached the age of 50. Mr. Lewis was born and raised in Albany, Georgia, and attended Doughtery County High School, where he was a member of the graduating class of 1991. During his time at the high school, he was a standout on the football and basketball teams and was also voted president of the senior class.
He furthered his studies in the city in which he was born by enrolling in Albany State University and earning his degree with the class of 1996. He started his academic career at Arizona State University, where he played basketball and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. He continued his studies at Troy State University, where he earned a master’s degree in special education.
Following his marriage to Kimberly, who is now his wife of 17 years, Mr. Lewis moved his family to Barnesville. During the last several years, he volunteered his time to assist with the young Upward basketball program at the First Baptist Church in Barnesville, where he was a member. Over the course of the past few years, he has also served as an assistant coach for the boys’ varsity basketball team at St. George’s Episcopal School in Milner.
Because of his generous spirit and affable demeanor, he was well-known and beloved across the community. Because of his stature alone, his size alone made him a magnet for children and adults, which enabled him to teach and become friends with hundreds of people throughout the course of his life. His welcoming grin and gentle eyes also helped.
