Michael Kudla Obituary, Death, Funeral And Visitation
Michael Kudla Obituary, Death – On August 2, 2023, Dr. Michael Leo Kudla, who was 76 years old, passed away. On June 24, 1947, he was born to his parents, Elizabeth “Betty” and Norman Kudla, in the city of Austin, Texas. As a child, Michael spent time living in many locations across Southern Louisiana. He attended and graduated from Buras High School, where he had many good memories of participating in extracurricular activities such as football and debate. He received his degree in 1969 from Louisiana State University, where he had previously studied. He joined the Fiji fraternity and earned a degree in History at the same time.
After marrying Joellen Lee for the first time, he relocated to Dallas, Texas, to pursue his education in medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He received his degree from that institution in 1973. After that, Dr. Kudla finished his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Parkland Hospital, which is located in Dallas, Texas. He started his business in Lake Charles, Louisiana, in 1977, and he continued there until he retired in 2005. The field of medicine appealed to him because, in his words, “it was a balance of science with the opportunity to have a great deal of interaction and connection with people.” He made the decision to become a physician for this reason.
In the year 1998, he wed Marilyn Kimball Kudla, who would become his second wife.
Between the years 2006 and 2009, he presided over the Physician’s Health Foundation of Louisiana in the role as President. He had been involved with the First United Methodist Church in SWLA for a good number of years and found great satisfaction in volunteering his time there. He was very involved in many organizations and served on the boards of several of them, including Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, Harbor House, Calcasieu Community Clinic, Calcasieu Parish Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Among the other organizations he was involved in is the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Jeffery Michael Kudla and Colleen Kudla Arceneaux, both of whom are married to Carrie, are his surviving children. He is also survived by his brother, Mitchell Alan Kudla, who is married to Ginger, and his four grandkids, Mia, Leo, Owen, and Miles. His parents and his sister Barbara Kudla Harris (Ralph) all passed away before him, as did his wife Marilyn Kimball Kudla. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was a student for the rest of his life and will be most remembered for his passion for the card game bridge, sailing, and reading.
On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at three o’clock in the afternoon, his funeral service will be place at First United Methodist Church, which can be found at 812 Kirkman Street in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Reverend Weldon Bares will preside over the ceremony. After the funeral, the body will be interred in the columbarium of the church. The church will be open for visitation beginning at one in the afternoon and continuing until the start of the service at three in the afternoon.
Donations in memory of the deceased may be donated to either the Harbor House or the First United Methodist Church.
