Judith Cloud Obituary, A Remarkable Life Remembered – Death

Judith Cloud Obituary, Death Cause – The music world mourns the loss of a remarkable individual, Judy Ann Cloud, who was not only a beloved voice professor, choral conductor, and composer at NAU but a true embodiment of passion and dedication to her craft. Judy’s journey on this earth came to an end on August 4, 2023, at the age of 69, after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer, leaving behind a legacy that resonates through the melodies she composed and the lives she touched. Music was not just a part of Judy’s life; it was the heartbeat of her existence. Born on July 21, 1954, to Isabel (Inky) Blackburn Cloud and Russell Cloud in Reidsville, N.C., she was the eldest of five sisters.

From a young age, Judy’s musical talents shone brightly, and her journey was shaped by her loving family. After relocating to Tryon, N.C., she found herself immersed in the world of music, often joining her musical family in church services. It was during this time that she met her first mentor, Dr. Ruth Graham, who introduced her to the rich tapestry of musical styles, from the timeless works of Bach to the enchanting compositions of Britten. Judy’s passion for music was evident throughout her life’s journey. Graduating from Tryon High School in 1972, she had already left her mark, participating in various musical activities such as playing the flute, singing in the chorus, and even excelling in basketball and golf. Her gift, however, lay in her enchanting Mezzo-Soprano voice, a voice that would go on to captivate the hearts of many.

It was no surprise that Judy decided to shape her career around her remarkable talent. She embarked on a journey to pursue a career in voice performance, setting the stage for a life dedicated to the beauty of musical expression. Today, we remember Judy Ann Cloud not only for her musical prowess but for the genuine kindness and love she shared with those around her. Her legacy will continue through the music she composed, the students she inspired, and the lives she enriched.
