According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the authorities were at the residence to serve a search warrant that had been authorized by a federal court in a case involving serious crimes against children.

FBI Director Christopher Wray confirmed in a statement that Special Agents Daniel Alfin and Laura Schwartzenberger had been slain in the line of duty. Two of the injured agents were sent to a hospital, where they were evaluated and found to be in a stable condition. According to statements made by the FBI on Wednesday, one of the agents was eventually freed. The third patient did not have to be admitted to the hospital.

Earlier on Tuesday, the police announced that the suspect was holed up inside a house and that emergency medical personnel were en route to the location. In a tweet sent out shortly after 9 o’clock in the morning, the police stated that the scene was secure but requested that people of the area remain inside their homes due to the ongoing investigation.
