The Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry family is deeply saddened by the news of her passing on August 5th, 2023. Her journey through life was marked by excellence, dedication, and an unwavering spirit of courage. Dr. Alicia Groce’s connection to our community was profound and enduring. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from NSUCO in 2014, a testament to her commitment to her field and her pursuit of knowledge. Following her graduation, she embarked on a path of further growth, completing a one-year residency in Pediatrics and Binocular Vision, which set the stage for her impactful career.

Her dedication and passion led her to the Southern College of Optometry, where she joined the esteemed faculty. Her role as an educator and mentor allowed her to influence the next generation of optometrists, imparting her knowledge, expertise, and unwavering commitment to the field. Dr. Groce’s journey took an unexpected turn when she was diagnosed with ALS, a battle she faced with remarkable faith and courage. Her resilience in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew her. Her determination to continue making a difference in the lives of her students and colleagues was a testament to her character.

In honor of her legacy, NSUCO developed the Dr. Alicia Groce Excellence in Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Award, a testament to her enduring impact.
